Exploring Specific Kidney Conditions

At Medilux Ayurveda, we believe in a comprehensive approach to kidney health. By combining traditional Ayurvedic wisdom with modern diagnostic tools, we aim to provide holistic care that addresses not just the symptoms but the root causes of kidney disorders. Our goal is to improve kidney function, slow disease progression, and enhance overall quality of life for our patients.

Kidney Stone Disease

Kidney stones (renal calculi) are solid, crystal-like deposits that form in the kidneys or urinary tract. They can cause severe pain, urinary obstruction, and recurrent infections if left untreated.

Diagnosis: Kidney stones are typically diagnosed through a combination of imaging studies (CT scans, ultrasounds) and urine analysis. The presence of blood in the urine (hematuria) is often an early indicator.

Ayurvedic Treatment at Medilux Ayurveda: Our approach focuses on dissolving existing stones and preventing new formations:

  • Herbal formulations like Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris), Pashanbhed (Bergenia ligulata), and Varuna (Crataeva nurvala) are used for their lithotriptic properties.
  • Dietary modifications to reduce oxalate-rich foods and increase fluid intake.
  • Panchakarma procedures like Uttara Basti (urethral douche) may be recommended in some cases.

Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD)

PKD is a genetic disorder characterized by the growth of numerous cysts in the kidneys, leading to enlarged kidneys and reduced function over time.

Diagnosis: PKD is typically diagnosed through imaging studies (ultrasound, CT, or MRI) and genetic testing. Family history plays a crucial role in early detection.

Ayurvedic Management at Medilux Ayurveda:

  • Herbs like Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa) and Gokshura are used to support kidney function and reduce inflammation.
  • Rasayana therapies to enhance overall vitality and slow disease progression.
  • Stress reduction techniques and yoga to manage hypertension, a common complication of PKD.

Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)

Acute Kidney Injury, formerly known as acute renal failure, is a sudden decrease in kidney function. It can be caused by various factors including dehydration, severe infections, or exposure to nephrotoxic substances.

Diagnosis: AKI is diagnosed through blood tests showing a rapid rise in creatinine levels, decreased urine output, and sometimes through kidney biopsy in unclear cases.

Ayurvedic Approach at Medilux Ayurveda:

  • While acute cases may require immediate conventional medical intervention, our Ayurvedic treatments focus on supporting recovery and preventing recurrence.
  • Herbal formulations to support detoxification and improve renal blood flow.
  • Gentle Panchakarma procedures to aid in toxin elimination once the acute phase has passed.

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Stages and Ayurvedic Management

CKD is classified into five stages based on GFR levels. At Medilux Ayurveda, we tailor our treatments to each stage:

  1. Stage 1 (GFR ≥ 90 mL/min/1.73 m²): Focus on preventive care and lifestyle modifications.
  2. Stage 2 (GFR 60-89 mL/min/1.73 m²): Introduction of herbal supplements to support kidney function.
  3. Stage 3 (GFR 30-59 mL/min/1.73 m²): Intensive herbal therapies and dietary interventions.
  4. Stage 4 (GFR 15-29 mL/min/1.73 m²): Customized Panchakarma procedures and advanced herbal formulations.
  5. Stage 5 (GFR <15 mL/min/1.73 m²): Supportive care to complement conventional treatments like dialysis.

Ayurvedic Diet for Kidney Health

At Medilux Ayurveda, we emphasize the importance of diet in managing kidney health:

  • Low sodium, potassium-controlled diet for CKD patients.
  • Incorporation of kidney-friendly foods like bitter gourd, asparagus, and red bell peppers.
  • Herbal teas and decoctions to support kidney function and reduce inflammation.
  • Proper hydration with specific guidelines based on individual patient needs.
